From myself prior to this at Hot Air:

Such as it was, so shall it be:

THESE are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but “to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER,” and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth. Even the expression is impious; for so unlimited a power can belong only to God.

-Thomas Paine, Crisis

Well should we remember these words when others fight for freedom, and our own government place too onerous a tax upon us. It is the right of all men to be free of overbearing, authoritarian government that seeks to take all your liberty, freedom, and welfare from you in the name of doing any good, or any service be it to man or God.

Such as it was, so shall it be.

We are, again, in the times of Paine.

Neda died with her eyes open so that we may not shut ours.

To those who seek freedom and liberty at the cost of their lives: you have my love and thanks.

You are marching into Hell.

As we have known that, so shall we know it once again.

While all this is going on, there is skateboarding and frosted-flake twitter from the White House and the president takes his daughters out for ice cream.

And if Bush had done either of those things while people were dying in the streets of Iran OR Iraq...the press would be crucifying him for it.

It is one of the most horrific things I've witnessed: a President of the United States unable to stand up for Liberty or Freedom as an essential aspect of humanity. I do begin to suspect that he cannot say those words and connect them as a concept without, somehow, wedging himself and a government power-grab into the matter.

And the press did go after President Bush when he took a rare vacation at his ranch because there was 'too much going on'. Far be it from me to point out that this President has an even busier agenda... which he wishes to leave up to sycophants and Congressional bluenoses... so he can blame others for his lack of doing the job. All other Presidents are expected to handle their office, and this one is no exception. His good will is evaporating and hard core supporters now outnumbered by hard core opponents. The FFT will bring him down to Earth and crater those numbers and the world will go to hell as the politics of squish get played out at home and abroad.

I keep my eyes open as I love all those fighting for liberty and freedom.

I do not like what I see.
